How to Measure a Cylinder Mold for Resin
Get accurate measurements for your cylindrical mold in three simple steps.
Measure the Diameter
Measure across the top opening of your cylindrical mold from one inside edge to the other.
Measure the Height
Measure from the bottom of the mold to the fill line. Cylinder heights are usually much greater than the diameter.
Calculate & Pour in Layers
Enter the diameter and height, choose your ratio, and calculate. For tall cylinders, pour in layers of 2–4 cm using casting resin.

Measure the diameter and height of your cylindrical mold. The formula is V = π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × height. Enter these values into the calculator above for instant results.
A circle calculation uses depth (thin pours like coasters). A cylinder calculation uses height (tall pours like pillar molds or vases). The formula is the same — V = π × r² × D/H — but cylinder molds are typically much taller.
For a 5 cm diameter × 10 cm tall candle mold: V = π × 2.5² × 10 ≈ 196 ml of mixed resin. Add 10% for waste.
It depends on the resin type. Casting resin handles deep pours of 2–4 cm per layer. For a tall cylinder, pour in layers to prevent overheating.
